What the Program is
Supporting Mothers. Nurturing Babies. Strengthening Families.
The Maternal & Infant Empowerment Initiative supports pregnant women and mothers with newborns and infants by combining essential baby supplies with education, life skills, health and safety information, and connections to community resources. The program recognizes that families often need both tangible assistance and supportive knowledge during pregnancy and the early months of a baby's life.
Why it Matters
Diapers, wipes, infant hygiene products, and other baby essentials can create a significant financial burden for families. At the same time, new and expectant mothers may need information about infant safety, healthcare, nutrition, parenting, insurance, and available social services. Addressing these needs together can strengthen both maternal well-being and infant health.
What We Provide
- Diapers, wipes, and essential baby-care supplies.
- Community Baby Showers for pregnant women and mothers with newborns.
- Parenting education and practical life-skills programming through community partners.
- Maternal and infant health and wellness education through community partners.
- Safe-sleep, car-seat safety, and infant-safety information or referrals.
- Connections to healthcare, insurance, nutrition programs, early-childhood resources, and social services.
The Bigger Goal
The program is designed so that a mother who comes to Lydia's Nest for diapers can leave with much more than supplies. She may also gain knowledge, confidence, healthcare connections, parenting resources, and relationships with agencies that can support her family. The long-term goal is healthier beginnings for babies and stronger, more stable families.
Funding Areas
Maternal health, infant health, early childhood, diaper need, parenting education, family strengthening, preventive health, health equity, basic needs, and social determinants of health.
