Lydia’s provides and annual health/educational fair where members of the community can come out and get free health information, health screenings such as blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks, and more. Lydia’s has partnered with Walmart and Health Blue of SC to host Flu shot clinic and other testing throughout the year. Funding from grants enable us to secure the resources we need to serve the most vulnerable members of our community during this difficult time. In addition, school closures, job disruptions, lack of paid sick leave and the coronavirus’ disproportionate impact on adults age 60 and older and low-income families further contribute to food and other personal needs. Lost wages or sudden expenses due to illness is increasingly burdensome to our citizens who live paycheck to paycheck, especially when, according to the Federal Reserve, 40 percent of Americans don’t have enough cash on hand to cover a $400 emergency expense.
